Your kitchen is the heart of your home. You don’t just prepare meals and store food there - it’s the place where you eat, entertain, relax and even work. It also has a huge impact on the value and saleability of your property. So it must be right.
That’s why we start from first principles. We don’t supply ‘standard’ kitchens. - we will design your kitchen to meet your needs while fitting perfectly into the style, size and period of your home.
"I just wanted to say a huge ‘thank you’ to you and everyone who has been involved in making the kitchen so amazing. We absolutely love it and the design we’ve ended up with works perfectly and looks so smart." - John and Sarah Biddulph
We will start by visiting you to look at your home and discuss your plans. Once we’ve agreed on the approach and discussed an approximate budget, we will draw up a layout to meet your ‘wish list’. This will establish the floor plan of the kitchen and indicate where everything will go.
If we feel some alteration to the building is needed - a new floor, a repositioned door or additional windows, for example - we will advise you on this and if necessary bring a recommended builder in to do the work for you.
When you’re happy with the floor plan, we will prepare elevations, samples and illustrations to show you just how the kitchen will look. We’ll also prepare a formal estimate.
We can design and build items of free-standing kitchen furniture such as tables, cupboards and storage units.
"I feel I must put on record my delight at the kitchen you’ve just completed for me. The finished result is receiving many justified compliments. I would like to thank you all for your pleasantness and good humour while doing the job. I also appreciated the tidying up at the end of each day’s work. Many thanks for transforming my kitchen - I now have no excuse for not cooking!" - Vivienne Moyce, Avening
Matching the period
As specialists in traditional period kitchens, we know just how to design and build one that will complement your house, whatever its period - from Tudor right through to the 20th Century. We will pick up styling cues from the internal architecture - doors, architraves, dado rails, staircases etc - to design a kitchen which will feel as if it’s always been part of your home.
The Arts & Crafts influence
The Arts & Crafts Movement of the late 19th Century, inspired by William Morris and John Ruskin, set out to restore functional honesty to the design of everyday household furniture and equipment. Chalford has long been a stronghold of the movement, and at Woodchester Kitchens we have remained true to the Arts & Crafts principles of simplicity before complexity and honesty before pretension. For example, we advise caution in specifying elaborate mouldings and unnecessary fine detail. We believe they are usually uncalled for in a kitchen - and of course they make it harder to keep it clean!
A country house in the Arts & Crafts style
We are happy to take commissions on any property, whether it’s a terraced cottage or a 20-room mansion, though we specialise in period homes. We pride ourselves on our realistic costs, which are well below some of the ‘big names’ in hand-built kitchens.
What you will eventually pay for your Woodchester kitchen depends very much on what you want. As a rough guide, the total cost is usually between £10,000 - £35,000 plus VAT. This does not include appliances, of course (which we can supply and fit at extra cost if you wish), nor does it include any building work that may be required.
